Even when I back to Singapore, I keep having the kind of nostalgia over there. You won't get this kind of feeling when you visited places near to Singapore such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, Bangkok etc. Because these places more or less having the similar kinds of culture, food, custom with us. However, when I were in Berlin, everything was so new, so exciting, so eye-opener for me... even the normal water they drank was so different from us (they prefer the carbonated water... not our usual kind of plain mineral water).
And being myself having the weird habit, I love to visit the same old place again, and again. I am not the adventurous type of traveller who enjoys exploring the new exotic place. I more prefer to take my own sweet time to blend into the life of that city. And once I develop the kick and click for that place, I would always have the urge to visit that place again. So, few years back I have this kick with KL... I kept visiting there and kind of exploring the place by foot... now I think I have a more expensive urge - that is Berlin. I really hope to go back there again, and so for now on I should start saving, plan my trip, and of cos, looking for a travel mate :)
Ever since I back from Berlin, I simply do not have time and budget to go for another trip, not even to KL... due to my family commitment. So, I have no choice but to explore our tiny island during the weekend. Having a car really helps, but sometimes it can restrict my movement too. Because by planning the route, I will always try my best to avoid places which are crowded, having difficulty in parking, or route which I really not familiar with. And of cos, I don't like to go too far from my house cos I don't like to waste my petrol consumption just because of going to one idiot place... so my favourite haunts would be around central, west and east area.
I used to enjoy visiting the shopping centres when I was free... yeah... I really did enjoy it. But... I kinda get bored of it, because everywhere seems to be the same. Nevertheless, I still enjoy going to my usual haunts such as Bugis, Geylang, Jalan Besar etc. Ya ya I know these places can be considered as "cheapskate" by some of the people, but these were the places I grown up and I really have some feeling with that...
And recently, I start to explore new places. I like those places with good food, not so crowded, with tinge of old generation, relax... and family friendly one... so, now a new place I like is Katong. I have also explored certain parks such as East Coast Parks, Marina South, West Coast Park and Mount Faber. But certainly, the places which my Whisky enjoy most are West Coast Park and Mount Faber... though these are more secluded and not much facilities though.
If you have any good suggestion, care to share?
